FOSS4G 2014 Call for Workshops
The FOSS4G organizing committee is pleased to announce the Call for Workshops for the 2014 conference! The conference is being held September 8th-12th in Portland, OR, USA with workshops occurring on the 8th and 9th.
Proposals are due on March 15th.
Workshops
Workshops are half or full-day hands-on experiences with participants following along with an instructor and working directly with the application(s) under discussion.
For 2014, we are offering two formats for instructors to use at their discretion.
-
We will provide workshop rooms with computers for participants to use. Instructors will need to discuss pre-installation requirements with the Conference Organizing Committee if required. The number of these rooms is limited.
-
Alternatively, instructors may choose a “Bring Your Own Device” format. This allows for more participants, but past experience has shown that this may require significant set-up time. Instructors are strongly encouraged to use bootable media such as the OSGeo Live DVD to reduce this burden. The Organizing Committee can help you coordinate this.
If you would like to offer an alternative format workshop from those above, please contact the organizing committee in advance of submitting your proposal.
Workshops require considerable effort to create, with past experience showing that three days of preparation per hour of presentation are required to produce a high-quality workshop. Additionally, you are strongly encouraged to develop material for attendees to take home with them, such as handouts, a workbook, CD-ROMs, etc.
In acknowledgement of the effort involved in producing and presenting a workshop, instructors will receive one complimentary registration to the main conference.
Topics of Interest
All submissions will be considered, but particular interest will be shown in the following topics:
-
End-user focused introductions to FOSS4G software
-
Software frameworks for developers
-
Interoperability / Spatial Data Infrastructure
-
Integration between open and closed source solutions
-
