Student Discounts
We are pleased to be able to offer a discounted student rate of $450 for full conference admission, including the gala night.
To be eligible for the student discount, we require a scan/photo of your student ID, including an expiration date valid for the dates of the conference. We will then send you a discount code for the conference registration. You will be asked to show your student ID at the conference registration desk on check-in. Please send your details to foss4g2014-info@osgeo.org.
Volunteer Opportunities
We are offering a limited number of opportunities to volunteer at the conference in exchange for heavily discounted registration. For one full day (or equivalent) of volunteer time, students will receive a 3-day conference registration for $125. Gala admission is not covered with this registration, but may be purchased separately.
Until July 1st, sign up for the volunteer slots will be limited to current students. After July 1st, any remaining slots will be open to the general public.
If you would to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact foss4g2014-volunteers@osgeo.org.
Travel Grants
We realize that traveling to and attending a conference can be expensive, and that not everyone who uses or develops open source software has someone to pay their way for them or the means to pay for it themselves. To make sure that as many deserving people as possible can attend FOSS4G, we have created the first FOSS4G travel grant program.
How can I help?
Demand for travel grants is fast outpacing funds. The organizing committee has set aside some money, but we can’t set aside nearly as much as we would like. To that end, we are asking you to donate to the cause. When you register for the conference or workshops, we have included a donation option. 100% of the donated money (less transaction fees) will be dedicated to our travel grant fund. Please add a donation to your registration to help us improve our community.
Our goal initial goal was to raise an additional $10,000; as of 26 August, we have secured $3,000 in corporate support from two donors (PGExperts and Amazon Web Services) and individual donations totaling more than $1,000 from more than 30 FOSS4G attendees. Thank you to everyone for your support.
If you would like to support increasing access to FOSS4G, you can donate to the travel grant fund when you register, or make a stand-alone donation here. We greatly appreciate your support.
What is included?
Travel grants include a complimentary admission to the main conference, and four nights in the conference hotel if applicants request lodging and funds allow. In exceptional cases, and depending on budget, we may also include airfare or other transportation costs. All in all, this is worth about $1500 per applicant (not including airfare/transportation).
Who is eligible?
The travel grants are available to anyone, but their purpose is to help those attend who would not have otherwise been able to. If you have the means to attend on your own, please do not apply.
Because we believe that a diverse community is a stronger community, we’ve dedicated 50% of our funds for women and minority attendees — these people have been traditionally underrepresented in the open source community and we believe it is important to work to bring that to an end.
How do I apply?
Applications are now closed, and all applicants have been notified of the status of their application. We hope to see this program continued at other FOSS4G events in the future — local, national, and international.
